The World: A Chance to Decide Happiness

I decided that we shouldn't have professional people. Yes, doctors and such are professional, but no more professional children. No more professional artist, athletes, singers/songwriters, play place makers. I guess what I am saying is that things that we do as a kid should be left for us to enjoy. This will probably make people upset but hey, it's my blog. I think that it is a problem when old people won't draw because they don't think they are good at it. That feeling only came from comparing ourselves to the people that are "professionals." This goes for playing piano, writing poetry, anything creative and fun. Yes, I should be able to ride my bike without thinking, "yeah, but I am not as good as Armstrong, Contador, Schleck, Kloden, Cavendish, Millar, or Zabriskie." Why don't we allow ourselves to enjoy the things that we do. I think this is more of a thinking out loud thing than it is a condemning the professionals thing. I just think that my dad is right... again. The sin is in the comparison. So what if your bird looks like a sloppy V and yet we have Mr. Parson over here drawing the wings of the blackbird while McCartney sings about it. We should be able to do what we want and not care what other people have to say. Why can't I decorate my own room without looking at Better Homes and Gardens magazine. Create, God gave you the ability. Don't be an old fart that paints himself into ruts of the roads diverging to the woods. We have no reason to settle into self dug bunkers in this life. Bombs of trial fall on us all and no grain of dirt will protect us. All of it was made for all of us, you don't escape it. But you don't embrace it. I don't believe God wants us running around arms open screaming for more trials. That leads to pride for those that conquer and bitterness for those that fail because they failed what they could never overcome without the help of a Savior.

Oh, and the whole play place thing was more of a call back to the world. God has already provided things to play on, like the earth. We can climb trees and explore. Just because we are not Magellan doesn't mean we can't discover the creek behind our house. Become as a child and be amazed by the awe that comes from the wind blowing the tree. Gratitude comes when we take time to ask how something works and realize we haven't the faintest idea. Gratitude and Humility, best buds.

Let yourself out of the boxes you're mimed yourself into. With invisible boundaries we block the limitless potential.

Rad Rach (I hope you don't mind the abbreviation of your name,) I had the same thought about the "Create" video. :)

Zach, why must you have the best one liners?! They're awesome, just like this post.

I agree that it is good to discover the creek behind your house, or the lagoon behind mine, but I can't say there's anything wrong with those who wish to discover Antartica either. Some need more and some less. Some people have professionalism pushed on them and accept it. Some have professionalism pushed on them and they reject it. I agree most with what you said - that it all comes down to comparisons. When we stop comparing ourselves to others it won't matter if we were the first to draw the blackbird, or the last, or if we don't want to draw it at all. When I was first told that there is no original story, it suddenly took the pressure off and I felt like I could write anything, because I had nothing to prove. Humility, and creativity, as you said. Rock on.
